They act as the physical connection point between flexible tubing and rigid hardware, ensuring the leak-free routing of coolants like water, dielectric fluids, or glycol to high-performance servers and manifolds.
Hose nipples serve specific, vital functions in modern data centers:
- Direct-to-Chip (DTC) Cooling: Barbed nipples are used to connect server blade tubing to cold plates mounted over CPUs and GPUs. They allow coolant to flow directly over hot components while isolating the liquid from sensitive electronics.
- Manifold and Rack Connections: Nipples connect distribution lines (which run up and down the server racks) to the main facility water supply. Push-lock and barbed nipples enable rapid, secure connections without the need for cumbersome clamps or ferrules.
- Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs): Heavy-duty hose nipples are used inside CDUs and large secondary cooling loops to link pumps, heat exchangers, and dry coolers.
- Immersion Cooling Tanks: Nipples and threaded pipe fittings form the inlet and outlet ports on immersion cooling tanks, safely circulating dielectric cooling fluids.
- Vibration and Thermal Management: Because data centers experience temperature fluctuations and pump vibrations, flexible hoses equipped with secure metal or plastic nipples prevent structural stress on rigid copper or stainless steel pipework.
